π The Elephant in the Room β Daily English Idiom #35
Ep #35 teaches "the elephant in the room" β an obvious problem or difficult topic that everyone is aware of but nobody wants to talk about β through three 4:5 flat-illustration cards: a comedic literal scene of a massive elephant in a living room while two characters cheerfully ignore it, a bold eggplant-purple definition card with plain-English meaning, and a mint-green scenario card showing Sam and Alex in an office where the idiom is highlighted in electric blue.
That awkward moment when everyone knows there's a huge problem... and no one says a word. π€«
"The elephant in the room" = an obvious issue everyone's aware of but nobody wants to bring up.
Think: the team meeting where morale is terrible but the manager just talks about metrics. Or the family dinner where everyone knows about the argument but smiles through dessert.
Next time you want to name it, say:
π "Let's talk about the elephant in the room."
Save this for when you finally need the words for that situation. π
